Ellisons Solicitors advise Colchester Archaeological Trust on historical move
03 May 2012
Ellisons Solicitors are pleased to announce the exchange of contracts between the Colchester Archaeological Trust and Taylor Wimpey Homes for the purchase, by the trust, of the former Military Education Centre, which is next to the Roman Circus site in Abbey Fields.
The process leading up to exchange has been a long one and both Philip Crummy, Director and Chief Archaeologist of the Trust and Stephen Lansley, Partner at Ellisons and the leading solicitor acting on the case, are pleased to have exchanged finally.
On completion of the purchase, the Trust will move its offices into the building and begin refurbishment work and the creation of outdoor displays to link in with the starting gates for the Circus.
The purchase process has not been an easy one, and is the culmination of much fundraising on the part of the trust.
Philip says: ‘‘Getting to this point has been a long process but the funds we have received so far, through various events, have been terrific and we’re very grateful. We hope to have everything complete and ready to coincide with the reopening of Colchester Castle in approximately two years’ time. We will of course have to do more fundraising.’’
Stephen said at the time of exchange: ‘‘For Ellisons Solicitors to advise on such a significant event in the town’s history is extremely important. We are a firm that has a real interest in all sectors of the community that we serve and we wish the Trust all success in its new endeavours.’’
