Family Mediation

Going through a divorce or a relationship breakdown is an incredibly stressful time for everyone involved. Very often, resolving the issues in the most amicable way possible, whether it’s financial or to do with your children, is a priority for you both.

Within our Family Department we have specialist Resolution Mediators who offer impartial guidance during this period of your life.  During the mediation sessions, we can cover financial issues, matters to do with any children you may have and any other practical issues that you want to resolve.

Ellisons Mediators work with you, providing a platform to help you move forward and an environment to find solutions. It is important to note that a mediator is neutral and unbiased towards both parties.

Using a Mediator who is also a qualified and practising solicitor is a real benefit to you, as they not only have mediation skills but also understand the law.

How does it work?

Once you have instructed a mediator, you will have a number of sessions together in order to help you reach a solution that suits both parties and your family. It is not a form of counselling, or a way to help couples get back together. Instead, you will talk through your issues and work out the best way to solve them together.

Usually 4-6 sessions, that last an hour and a half each, will be needed. Once a proposal is reached, it will be approved by each of your solicitors who will then complete the legal formalities.

When to use Ellisons

Mediation can be commenced at any stage. So as long as you are both willing to take part then you or your solicitor can make a referral to us to discuss whether mediation is suitable for you both.
