My name is Catherine Duggan and I am a fourth seat trainee in the Dispute Resolution department, I work for Commercial Litigation and Insolvency teams. I will be qualifying in September.

I arrive at the office between 8am – 8:30, this gives me the chance to get settled into my day. I start by checking my calendar and emails. Once I have done this, I write out my to do list of any tasks that need to be completed today, in order of priority.

Every morning my team have a catch up, we discuss what work everyone has on and who has capacity. This gives everyone the chance to talk about matters we have on and ask any questions.

After this I get started on my tasks for the day. Today my task is carrying out research to see if a matter is automatically stayed and/or struck after a certain amount of time if not progressed.

This brings me up to lunch time, I have my lunch and then if it isn’t raining, me and another trainee go for a walk to get some fresh air and ready for the afternoon!

After lunch I have internal training through Ellisons Academy, which is a great opportunity to catch up with colleagues from other departments.

Once my training session has completed, I check my emails again and respond to any urgent emails. I will then call any new enquiries that have come in throughout the day.

Towards the end of the day I make sure I complete all time recording, it is so important to not miss any chargeable time so I make sure I do it at the end of each day. I log off at approximately 5:30 and head home!
