Clients who registered Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPAs) with the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) from 1 April 2013 to 31 March 2017 may be entitled to a refund of the court fee.

The fee for registering an LPA was reduced from 110 to 82 in April 2017 to reflect the actual administrative cost of registering an LPA. The Ministry of Justice has agreed to refund the excess.

The donor (person who made the LPA) or attorney can make the claim using the government’s online or telephone service. The amount of the refund will depend on when the LPA was registered.

The refund will be paid to the donor’s bank account and interest will be charged at 0.5%.

It only takes about 10 minutes to submit your claim and the claim takes up to 12 weeks to be processed.
