Ellisons are pleased to be acting upon behalf of Colne in their quest to provide 27 modern new homes in Harwich.
The go-ahead has been given for Essex housing association Colne to build new homes for local residents on the housing register. Tendring District Council has approved Colne‘s plans to build 27 homes for affordable rent on the derelict Bernard’s Uniforms factory site in Main Road. Harwich Town Council also backed Colne’s plans.
Colne’s chief executive Sara Thakkar said: “We are pleased to be able to provide 27 modern new-build homes for affordable rent to help ease the housing crisis in the area.The project is likely to start within weeks with the demolition of the existing buildings. All our homes will be allocated via Tendring District Council to families and single people in the local area in need of housing.”
Philip Roberts and his team at Ellisons have been working with Colne on this project and will continue to offer sound advice until completion.
The homes will be let at an affordable rent and priority will be given to those who have lived continuously in Tendring for the past three years.
There are currently around 1,200 households on the Tendring register. The site of the development lies in the Harwich Regeneration Area; the Harwich Conservation Area and the Harwich Master Plan Area. The scheme’s design and layout was judged to create a safe, visually attractive and functional proposal which will enhance the town’s conservation area.
Colne held an information day for local residents last year. Since the factory closed in 2007, the site has been vandalised and become an eyesore. Colne provides a range of affordable homes for people in north Essex and cerates opportunities which improve communities.
