Rob’s Big Walk returns for 2023, organised by Ellisons Solicitors on behalf of The Rob George Foundation. Following previous walks along the Essex Way, this year we are excited to take the event to Mersea Island.  The 14 mile round the island route will provide a wonderful back drop for this Big Walk and enable friends, family and supporters of the Rob George Foundation to come together and raise funds.

The Rob George Foundation exists in memory of Rob, who died aged 21 in 2013, after a battle bravely fought against Leukaemia. Our main aims are to provide practical and/or financial support to young people with life threatening or terminal illnesses, and to provide financial support to young people who demonstrate exceptional commitment and/or ability in the worlds of sport or performing arts but may be held back by their financial situation from pursuing their goals.

We invite you to join Rob’s Big Walk, as an opportunity to get out and explore the beautiful Essex countryside on your doorstep. You will be amazed by its variety and splendour. We hope for everyone involved to have fun and feel a sense of achievement, all whilst being involved in fundraising for an important cause.

Rob’s Big Walk takes place on Sunday 11th June 2023.

The walk will begin at Mersea Barns, East Rd, East Mersea, Colchester CO5 8TQ.  All walkers are encouraged to arrive by 9am.  Refreshments will be provided before you head off round the island.   All walkers will be free to either keep up with the pace (approx. 3 miles/hr) or walk at their own speed.  A shorter route will also be available.

The Mersea Island coast path varies between the sand and shingle beaches of the North-sea facing south coast and the gentle wilderness of the Strood and Pyefleet channels of the north coast. Rounding the eastern tip of the island you will pass the low small Jurassic cliffs and woodland of Cudmore Grove Park.  The coast path is flat and easy walking, with plenty of great pitstops in West Mersea too!

Who is it for?

Everyone! We’re calling all local businesses, groups of friends, individuals, and clubs to get involved. Dogs on leads welcome too!
