Leading law firm, Ellisons Solicitors, is pleased to announce that Guy Longhurst is now Senior Partner, taking over the reins from Peter Powell.

Peter hands over the position to his successor, Guy, after five years in post. However, Peter will remain as a Partner at the firm and will continue to act for his many clients –with no plans to retire just yet!

What’s more, Ellisons is also pleased to announce the promotion of Commercial Property lawyer, Philip Roberts, to partner. Philip has worked for Ellisons since 2004 and looks forward to the new challenge.

Peter Powell trained with Ellisons and qualified in 1971, becoming a partner in 1974. Peter was Ellisons’ Senior Partner for the period 1988 to 1997 and resumed the role in 2007. He says: ‘‘I would like to wish Guy every success in his new position. I have no doubt that Guy will help drive Ellisons forward, building upon the firm’s already thriving knowledge, expertise and client base.’’

Guy, who joined Ellisons in 1995, became a partner in 2000, before his promotion to one of three Managing Partners of the firm. He says: ‘‘I am delighted to take on the role of Senior Partner at such an exciting and pivotal time for the firm. I look forward to developing the practice further with the help of the strong team at Ellisons. The promotion of Philip Roberts to Partner reflects the standard of individuals we have at the firm. Philip joined us as a trainee in 2004, before qualifying in 2006 – a solicitor who has shown he can make it all the way to partnership.’’

Guy continues: ‘‘I’d like to take this opportunity to say thank you to Peter, for being an outstanding role model. Thankfully, the firm does not have to say goodbye to Peter for the time being and he will continue to be a key member of the commercial property team.’’

To celebrate the succession, Senior Partners, old and new were reunited for a lunch at Le Talbooth, Dedham before the takeover. In attendance were Guy Longhurst, Peter Powell, Bryn Smart, David Holmes and Jack Tinson.

All staff across the firm were invited to celebrate officially on Monday 30th April, with drinks and canapes at the Lemon Tree.

Ellisons continues to lead the way in Essex, with offices in Colchester and the Tendring Peninsula. Despite the economic downturn of recent years, Ellisons has continued to grow and indeed the last financial year has been a positive one.

All promotions come into effect from Tuesday 1st May 2012.
