At Ellisons, we are committed to supporting future generations of legal professionals. Our work experience programmes are aimed at students in Years 10 and 11 and are designed to give students the opportunity to gain practical skills and knowledge of what it is like to work at a leading East Anglian Law Firm.

We recently welcomed our latest intake of students for our Summer work experience placement and asked them share an insight into their week:

From the minute I got in on the Monday morning, the people at Ellisons were so eager to help and make me feel welcome. We got an IT introduction that showed us how to contact all members of the team. I was working in Commercial Property. This meant looking at Land Registry forms, comparing information, and attempting to understand all the legal terminology (not an easy feat!). One activity I particularly enjoyed was researching cases that set legal precedents in Property law. The biggest thing with a firm like Ellisons was the professional atmosphere. I was very lucky to experience what it was like at a large firm. The office experience was something that will help me decide what I want to do when I am given the opportunity to attend a real job. We also learnt how the different departments interact in webinars given by the HR team. The core values at Ellisons ran strongly through everything they did, and I heard all about charity walks and work events from those in the office.  It was clear that the community was of utmost importance, and the colleagues were so thoughtful and ready to give me tasks throughout the week.– Gracie

During my week at Ellisons, the work experience programme provided a very packed timetable in which consisted of various introductions to several areas of the firm, departments and also very helpful events such as the apprenticeship Q&A where I learned several different facts about the apprenticeship path towards becoming a solicitor, professional writing skills where key notes about  writing a professional letter were given and other key events such as creating attendance notes, and writing this very blog post.– Dave

Through this Work Experience scheme I have broadened my knowledge of various terms within law ranging from Corporate Social Responsibility and the vitality it provides to ensure that positive relations are upheld within the firm to commercial property drafting. I also discussed future career options with various members of the team at Ellisons such as doing a Law degree at University or applying for an apprenticeship and studying alongside it to receive the qualifications necessary and also to have experience of working for a Law firm. Through talking to various legal professionals my interest for family law was ignited and it was very interesting to find out more about that aspect.– Niamh
