Shared ownership is available to first time buyers to get them on the housing ladder. This offers them the opportunity to purchase a percentage of a property in conjunction with a housing association. In return, they will be able to secure a mortgage against the property and will pay rent to the housing association in addition to repaying their mortgage.
The lease drafted by the housing association will require a meticulous review to ensure that you are fully advised on the provisions of the lease and any restrictions it may place on your ownership of the property.
