Trainee Solicitor FAQ

Candidates should have a degree and have completed the Legal Practice Course before commencing the training contract but can apply for training contracts whilst still studying.

Interviews will normally take place in September 2019.

We are looking for two Trainee Solicitors to commence in September 2020 and five Trainee Solicitors to commence in September 2021.

The purpose of the training contract is to give trainees supervised experience in legal practice through which they can refine and develop their professional skills. The training contract is the final stage of the process of qualification as a solicitor.

We provide trainee solicitors with the opportunity to gain practical experience in a legal environment by giving them experience in at least three distinct areas of English law, including opportunities to develop their skills in both contentious and non-contentious work during the 2 year term of the contract. Practice areas covered are in line with the guidelines issued by the Solicitors Regulation Authority.

Generally speaking, Trainee Solicitors will undertake four seats of six months duration.

During the training contract, you must attend and satisfactorily complete the Professional Skills Course (PSC). The Professional Skills Course builds upon the Legal Practice Course and provides training in three subject areas:

  • Financial and Business Skill
  • Advocacy and Communication Skills
  • Client Care and Professional Standards

We pay for the PSC and give you paid time off to attend the course as well as paying reasonable travel expenses.
