What is a settlement agreement?

As your time at a business comes to an end, you may be offered a settle agreement upon leaving your post. This lawful and binding contract defines how your employment term ends, and traditionally includes a severance payment if you agree to not pursue any claims you might have from your employment or its termination. These terms will usually be offered if there are potential claims which need resolving amicably and legally for both parties during a redundancy situation where an enhanced redundancy payment is being made, or as a means of bringing the employment to an end.

Remember, your settlement agreement is not ratified and legal until you have received legal advice from an independent adviser prior to signing it.
